2008

  • HSN launches MySpace and Facebook pages
  • HSN and Coty Inc. form a strategic partnership that will bring numerous products from the Coty family to HSN.
  • Style Icon Patricia Field joins HSN to create an exclusive, limited edition collection of fashions including clothing, accessories, handbags, belts and scarves, all featuring Ms. Field’s signature flair for details. “Patricia Field’s DESTINATION STYLE NEW YORK” became available in September.
  • HSN invites consumers to “Come On In” with the launch of its largest customer acquisition campaign. The multi-million dollar advertising campaign includes TV ads airing during the summer Olympics, as well as print ads appearing in magazines such as Allure & Gourmet. The campaign also features an online sweepstakes, which offers once-in-a-lifetime prize experiences.
  • HSN announces the October launch of celebrity interior designer Nate Berkus, whose exclusive collection will include a variety of home goods including rich textiles, classic linens, decorative accessories and furniture.

2007

  • Rollout of re-branding initiative with introduction of new sets, graphics and on-air presentations as well as a refreshed HSN.com
  • America’s Store broadcast ends
  • Shop By Remote service launched nationally
  • HSN.com fully integrates video and HSN becomes one of the largest providers of video to youtube.com
  • Territory Ahead opens retail stores in Freehold, NJ and Partridge Creek, MI. Ballard Designs opens retail stores in Tampa and Jacksonville, FL.
  • Smith+Noble expands services to include the acquisition of United Independent, launch of Shop-at-Home program and Measure and Install program.

2006

  • Mindy Grossman appointed CEO of IAC’s Retailing division
  • “Shop By Remote” introduced allowing TV viewers to purchase items with a remote control
  • Territory Aheadaddstwo new retail locations in Bellevue, WA and Boulder, CO.
  • Frontgate opens outlet locations in Columbus, OH.

  • Acquisition of leading catalog and online retailer Cornerstone Brands

2003

  • America’s Store launched on DirectTV as a second channel for HSN

2001

  • Acquisition of Improvements brand catalog and website from Hanover Direct Inc.
  • More revenue on hsn.com generated in Q4 2001 than all of FYE 2000

1999

  • HSN acquires Ingenious Designs, a producer of consumer products sold via direct response TV ads and infomercials
  • HSN.com launched and was profitable within 3 months

1995

  • Barry Diller acquires HSN and becomes Chairman of the Board

1993

  • Liberty Media acquires controlling interest of HSN

1981-1986

  • Business concept grows to Tampa Bay area local access cable as “Home Shopping Channel”
  • Home Shopping Channel launched nationwide as Home Shopping Club, broadcasting 24-hours a day on cable and local TV
  • IPO of HSN on American Stock Exchange

1977

  • HSN was founded when 112 electric can openers were sold on a Clearwater, FL AM radio station. The show became a regularly scheduled “Suncoast Bargaineers” show.
